The Band Boosters meeting officially began at 7:35 pm via Google Meet and was presided over by Traci Poppert, with Ellen McGuinness as secretary.

Minutes

  • The February minutes were approved – 1st) Denise, 2) Moira, Unanimous.
  • The March minutes were also approved – 1st) Denise, 2) Jaclyn, Unanimous.

Director’s Report -- Mr. Gasemy

  • Both calendars are up-to-date & synched (Google & Band App).
    • A new one is being built & will be ready soon.
  • 14 kids applied for leadership positions.  A decision will be made & posted soon.
  • OLD LINE –
    • Dayton Worlds – didn’t make finals but did a fabulous job.
    • All kids represented TJ well.
    • Colorguard placed first at KIDA Chapionships in Chambersburg in early April.
  • The band calendar for the summer/fall has been posted (band webpage & Band App)
    • TJ has registered for fall competitions – UHS, LHS, Williamsport, States.
    • FCPS Marching Festival is in October, but the date is not finalized.
    • The Homecoming football game will be at FHS, with a 1 pm start time.
  • MARCHING BAND (fall 2023 season) --
    • informational meeting – Tuesday 5/2, 6-7:30 PM.
      • hoping to add a virtual component.
      • Encourage kids/families to bring friends. RECRUIT!  “No experience needed!”
    • Bringing in some new staff.
    • Plan to communicate more with elementary schools, charter schools, & virtual school.
    • Clinics will be 5/11, 5/18 & 6/1, with a mini-camp on Saturday 6/3 @ 9 am.
    • Band camp is earlier this summer – the last two weeks of July/
  • Spring Concert is Tuesday 5/9, 7pm – choir, symphonic orchestra & concert band.
  • BANQUET – Thursday 5/18, 6 pm.
  • MMS concert, Monday 5/15, 7 pm.
  • Last day of school for students is Friday 6/2 (Early Dismissal).

    • Kids stay there in the dorms (with one other kid) for the week.
    • Food is included.
    • Kids learn how to march, leadership, & go rock-climbing.

  • Same students are still past due, since the fall.
  • One senior has finally paid off their balance.
  • One other senior still owes.

VP1 – Robin  

  • No report/absent.
  • Uniform Room (Moira)
    • Uniforms need to get to the cleaners.
    • Cluttered, but a lot of things will be used for Jazz Night.

Secretary/Chaperones – Ellen

  • No secretary report.
  • Chaperones – a new chair is needed for next year.  Ellen will help!

President – Traci

  • WE NEED NEW OFFICERS FOR NEXT YEAR!  Elections will be held at the May “Annual” meeting.
    • President, Treasurer (Kim B?), Secretary (Sherry Q?)
  • JAZZ NIGHT (Moira) Saturday 4/29/23, TJ Cafeteria
    • Need more deserts & volunteers.
      • Can be either homemade or storebought.
    • Desert included with ticket.
    • Wegmans & Weis donated gift cards, Jo will check with Food Lion.
    • Working on getting coffee donations.
    • Decorations: “A wall of jazz.”
      • Displaying Marching Band pictures by the deserts to entice the middle school kids to join.
  • BAND BANQUET (Jen Anderson)
    • Invitations are ready – sending them to Gasemy to copy & give to kids.
    • Good responsibility for kids that want to help.
      • Jen will meet with kid volunteers during Connect or after school.
    • Reached out for donations (businesses).
      • Traci: “Try a different Weis as they always give.”
      • Use donations for deserts & drinks.
    • Food will be from Olive Garden, delivered.
    • $10/ticket (due 5/5); the price was dropped from previous years due to corporate fundraising.
    • There will be a 1-hour awards ceremony in the auditorium, then dinner in the cafeteria.
    • VOLUNTEERS NEEDED to help decorate.

Fundraising – Denise Failacci

  • Raise Right $461 in March -- $369 went to student accounts & $71 to the general fund.
    • Also told Nick to notify the incoming middle school kids.
  • Hershey Park tickets will arrive in May and are good until 9/10/23, $50 due 4/17.
  • Need a co-chair for fundraising to prepare for next year, as well as committee members & individual fundraiser chairpeople.
    • Several previous fundraiser chairs have children that are graduating.
  • Ellen/Moira – summer car wash dates are 6/10, 6/24, 7/15, 7/29, andAl 8/12.
    • All at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 1415 W 7th ST.
    • All 10am – 2pm, with set up crew arriving at 9:30 am.
    • Supplies are in one of the sea crates.

*Next booster meeting:  wednesday, 5/24/23, 7:30 pm, in-person.
*This will be the “annual Meeting,” during which the election for new board members will be held!
