GTJHS MARCHING BAND ON SPORTS WEEKEND ON WFMD
THE SPOTLIGHT IS ON THE GOVERNOR THOMAS JOHNSON HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND ON THIS WEEK'S FREDERICK COUNTY SPORTS WEEKEND ON WFMD!!!!!!!
TJ Athletic Director Steve Nibbs says, "they work harder than the football team." Nibbs is talking about the Thomas Johnson High School Marching Band under the leadership of band director Kimberly Sandifer. It all begins with a two week , twelve hour a day, summer band camp of intense training in music and marching formations. There are countless afternoons of practice on the hot parking lot pavement and then planning and execution of precise marching movements while at the same time playing music. And this band is good , winning a state championship and a Mid Atlantic championship in recent weeks. Senior Drumline Captain Kennedy Zimnik provides leadership as a student and talks about the experience he has had in the TJ band program. Ms. Sandifer said her goal for many years has been to take the helm of a band program like the one in place at TJ.
